1. Wawel Royal Castle
Wawel 5
This is the royal residence where the Polish royals lived (and they ruled the country for five centuries (XI-XVI). You just have to visit this place! Especially in spring, when the magnolia trees are in bloom.
2. The Central Square
Rynek Glowny
The largest square in any of Europe’s medieval cities. Renaissance Cloth Hall and St. Mary’s Basilica are the most famous buildings. Nice views: METRUM Restobistro (Swietego Tomasza 43), Sky Bar (Szczepanska 3) and Cafe Sukiennice (Rynek Glowny 1/3).
3. Collegium Maius
Jagiellonska 15
The oldest surviving building of the Jagiellonian University (founded in XIV century). Some well-known alumni are Nicolaus Copernicus, Pope John Paul II and many others, including distinguished Polish intellectuals and political leaders
4. Planty Park
A nice green oasis with a walkway that runs along the walls of the old city center. Well kept and worth a stroll, even in wintertime.
5. Zakrzowek lake
Twardowskiego street
An old quarry with crystal water, surrounded by the park and rocks. A wonderful place to see on a sunny day. It is totally unexpected that many people still don’t know it.
6. The Botanical Garden
Mikolaja Kopernika 27
The botanical garden of the Jagiellonian University was a lovely surprise for me. I really liked the glasshouses, they are small structured and clean. Besides there are almost no people, who would like to spoil your picture.
7. Przegorzaly Castle
Jodlowa 13
Currently the castle is part of the Jagiellonian University and it is also a restaurant. The view from the restaurant balconies can be very romantic, especially in autumn 😉
